Hydro-Fracking

What is Hydro-Fracking?

Hydro Fracturing, Hydro Fracking or water well Fracturing; these are a few of the names that have been applied to the process of opening the natural fissures that supply water to a drilled well. Over time these fissures can become blocked with sediment or build-ups of dirt and rock and can slow to stop the flow of water into the well. Hydro Fracturing uses extreme high pressure water to open and expand these fissures thereby restoring or increasing the flow of water to the well.

The procedure for Hydro-fracking is as follows:

The pump is removed from the well and the depth is measured. Casing and static water levels are measured. The packer is installed approximately 40’ below water static. Approximately 1,200 gallons of water is pumped in the well during the process. The water is pumped in at multiple levels under high volume and pressure.

What are some of the possible benefits of Hydro-fracking?

• Increases long term flow from a dry water well or low producing water well.

• Improves reliability of the well during dry seasons and drought years.

• Improves water quality through the reduction of suspended sediment. 

• Increases usable water storage in the well. 

• Reduces draw down levels during pumping, which reduces energy costs and lengthens pump life. 

• Achieve water production goals with shallower (less expensive) wells. 

• Increases availability of mortgage loans.
